Concrete Jungle
As I explored the abandoned spaces of West Oakland, my curiosity about the community's past grew. This book unravels Oakland's history, focusing on the impact of industrialization on this small town. Derived from extensive research, it aims to bring awareness to the often-overlooked consequences of urban development.
In presenting Oakland's rich history, I am mindful that the stories and experiences shared are part of a complex fabric of communities, each with unique struggles and triumphs. This book respectfully acknowledges the Indigenous peoples, the original stewards of the land, and the diverse groups, particularly minorities, who have shaped Oakland's identity and culture. My intention is to elevate these vital voices and histories, celebrating their enduring influence in a city that continues to evolve.
